Latest Projects

Since its formation, Building Wildlife has assisted with, provided funding for, and advised on a number of habitat conservation and mitigation projects. Below is a summary of projects funded to benefit great crested newts, primarily:

Flintshire

  • 3 new ponds constructed on different areas within the Deeside and Buckley Newt Sites SAC
  • 6 ponds restored on different areas within the Deeside and Buckley Newt Sites SAC
  • Purchase of woodland within the Deeside and Buckley Newt Sites SAC
  • Meadow management and enhancement of footpaths
  • Control of invasive Azolla fern in 2 ponds used by great crested newts in Connah’s Quay
  • Control of blackthorn around ponds and installation of an access gate for management at Llwyni, Connah’s Quay
  • Design, production and installation of interpretation board on mitigation site at Penymynydd
  • Fencing of wildlife corridor around Llwyni Meadow, Connah’s Quay
  • Donation for dormouse habitat management in the Alyn Valley

Wrexham

  • Creation of 1 new pond and restoration of 1 existing pond at Commonwood
  • Restoration of 10 ponds on farmland at Pickhill Bridge Farm
