The Board – Nicola Johanson

Nicola Johanson profile picture. 295px by 293pxNicola Johansen is an experienced Sustainability Manager with over 20 years of experience developing
and implementing sustainability and environmental strategies in business.

She is currently Group Sustainability Manager at Redrow, a UK house-builder, where she is the Group’s biodiversity lead, as well as working on sustainability strategy, public reporting and resource efficiency programmes. She manages a partnership with The Wildlife Trusts – working together to implement a nature strategy throughout the business. The strategy contains 15 commitments to enhance biodiversity on new developments, help local communities connect with nature and ensure long-term management and monitoring of the impacts for nature and people. She also manages a long-term partnership with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust creating bee-friendly developments and inspiring Redrow customers to get involved in helping bumblebees – through community projects and providing support for pollinator-friendly planting in their gardens.

As well as working within the private sector, Nicola has also worked on several government programmes supporting business to make positive environmental change. She has also featured in environmental studies on a Masters degree at Bangor University and in corporate social responsibility at Liverpool John Moores University Business School – enjoying the opportunity to discuss these important issues with people starting out on their careers.

Nicola has a life-long love of the outdoors and nature which started as a climber and mountaineer in her teens and has recently expanded to include a new=found interest in all things botanical. She is currently studying for an MSc in Conservation Management at Edge Hill University. Previous qualifications are a BSc in Environmental Management, an MBA and a PGCertHE.
